The paper “Uncertainty Interaction in Software-Intensive Systems: A Community Roadmap” has been accepted for publication on ACM Transactions on Autonomous and Adaptive Systems (TAAS).

This is the result of the NII Shonan Meeting No. 232, UNISON, held at the Shonan Village Center in Japan on March 2–5, 2026. The meeting brought together 26 researchers from different communities to examine how multiple sources of uncertainty interact in software-intensive systems, an issue that becomes increasingly important in areas such as autonomous, cyber-physical, self-adaptive, and AI-enabled systems.

Building on the discussions and outcomes of the meeting, the paper develops a community research roadmap organized around three main themes: establishing conceptual foundations for uncertainty interaction, developing methods to analyze and quantify its effects, and identifying strategies for mitigating those effects. It also highlights open research challenges and aims to provide a common foundation for future work on making software-intensive systems safer, more dependable, and more resilient under interacting uncertainties.
